What Are Cold Sores?

Cold Sores are blisters caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus.  They usually appear as a group of small blisters.  Most of the time this virus contaminates the body through a transfer to fluid at break in the skin near or in your mouth.  It can spread when a person touches a cold sore or contacts the infected fluid; through kissing or hugging.  Parents whom have cold sores may infect their Children from a simple kiss.

What Are The Symptoms Of A Cold Sore?

The normal symptoms (warning signs) of cold sores may include a tingling and or itching around your mouth & lips.  This can be painful.  A fever, a sore throat, or swollen glands can indicate the presence of the infection.  Once the blisters appear; the cold sores usually break open.  Then they leak a clear fluid and then crust over.  They disappear after several days but may last as long as two weeks.

How Are Cold Sores Treated?

Cold sores usually start to heal on their own within a few days and then disappear within a couple of weeks.  If they cause pain or make you feel self-couscous, they can be treated to go away sooner.  Skin creams, ointments, or medication are standard successful treatment options.  These treatments can shorten the healing time by 1 or 2 days.

Laser Therapy is a more effective way to treat cold sores.

If you treat the lesion before it breaks, laser treatment can PAINLESSLY dry it up and prevent the sore from spreading.  When you start to feel a tingling sensation, you are warned of a sore developing.  Call and schedule an appointment for a QUICK laser treatment.  If you already have a full blown sore, a laser treatment will help to dry it up and shorten the time needed to heal.

The Herpes Simplex Virus that causes cold sores cannot be cured.  After you get infected, the virus lives in your body forever.  If you get cold sores often, laser therapy can reduce the frequency of outbreaks you have and reduce the severity.

Most cold sores reoccur in the same spot every time.  We have Good News, if we perform multiple laser treatments at the same location, it will decrease the appearance at that site.
