Schenectady was designated as a borough in 1765 and chartered as the city of Schenectady in 1798. The Mohawk Indians named the city “Schau-naugh-ta-da”, which meant “Over the Pine Plains.”1
Schenectady is nestled in a bend of the Mohawk River. It is an hour south of Lake George and 20 minutes North of Albany, the State Capital of New York. The Nott Memorial
The Nott Memorial which is a national historical landmark and the physical & architectural center of Union College in downtown Schenectady. It is a 16 sided 110-foot-high cement and stone structure.
Directions to The Nott Memorial from Advanced Aesthetics Dentistry are:
- Head Southwest for 0.7 miles on Rt 50 / Saratoga Rd
- Bear left onto Freemans Bridge Rd after 1.6 miles
- Bear Right onto Erie Blvd, after 0.6 miles
- Take the 3Rd right in the round about onto Nott Street.
- After 0.5 miles, turn Right and then bear Left into Alexander Lane
- In a ½ mile, turn Right onto South Lane
- After Traveling 0.4 miles you have reached The Nott Memorial
Proctor’s Theatre
This used to be a vaudeville house located in Schenectady, New York. Many famous artists have performed here; such as Mariah Carey, Hal Holbrook, Britney Spears, Ted Wiles, and comedian George Burns.
Directions to Proctor’s Theater from Advanced Aesthetics Dentistry are:
- Head Southwest on Rt 50 / Saratoga Rd for 0.7 miles
- Bear left onto Freemans Bridge Rd after 1.6 miles
- Bear Right onto Erie Blvd, after 0.6 miles
- Take the 2nd exit to stay on Erie Blvd.
- After 0.6 miles take Broadway to a left turn onto State Street
- Proctor’s Theater in only 0.2 miles when you travel further down State Street
Indian Meadows Town Park
This 186-acre Park in Glenville NY is the largest and most popular park in Schenectady. Several recreational facilities are located within the park offer a variety of year-round activities. Including trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, 3 rinks for ice skating, a sleigh hill, tennis & basketball courts, large fields to play baseball or soccer, a pavilion, playground, and restroom facilities.
Directions from Advanced Aesthetics to Indian Meadows Park:
- Turn left onto NY-50 N/Saratoga Rd
- After 1.9 miles, Turn left onto Charlton Rd
- Then drive 0.7 miles and Turn left onto Droms Rd
- After 0.6 mi Turn left onto Jason Morris Way
- Then Indian Meadows Park is only 0.2 miles down the road
The Empire State Aerospace Museum
In 1984 four Aircraft and flying enthusiasts built The Empire State Aerospace Museum (ESAM). They wanted to create a museum with the purpose of inspiring and educating the public about planes and flying. After a short time, the number of visitors and membership increased very rapidly as did the size of the museum. The small amount of material on display increased quickly to more than 20 planes and several exhibits. An interactive display and a simulated ride were added. The research library houses more than 5000 photos, 10,000 books, and more than 6,000 other historical documents.
